Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli Rescheduled for October 31

Canelo Alvarez's upcoming bout against Christian Mbilli has officially been rescheduled to October 31, as confirmed by Canelo himself in a conversation with Ariel Helwani today. The championship fight was initially slated for September 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Approximately three weeks ago, a postponement was announced without a specific reason being provided. Canelo has since stated that "some problems in (his) family" necessitated the delay, as he needed to attend to these matters before commencing his training camp. In this bout, Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KO) is set to challenge for the WBC super middleweight title currently held by Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KO). Mbilli earned his current title status following the retirement of Terence “Bud” Crawford, who had defeated Canelo to become the undisputed 168-pound champion in September 2025. Neither Canelo nor Mbilli have competed since that event. Mbilli's last outing was a draw against Lester Martinez on the undercard of the Canelo vs. Crawford fight. Martinez has since been elevated to the status of WBC interim champion. The rescheduled fight between Canelo and Mbilli will still occur in Riyadh and will be available for viewing on DAZN via pay-per-view or their "Ultimate" tier. Meanwhile, September 12 will still feature a significant boxing event, with the Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn welterweight title fight scheduled to take place under the Zuffa Boxing banner and stream on Paramount+.
