Boots Ennis: Moving to 154 Was a Great Decision

Jaron Ennis appears to be on the verge of his first real marquee fight. Boots Ennis appeared on The Breakfast Club this morning to promote this weekend’s title fight against Xander Zayas. During the segment, he was asked about his career development, his name being long linked with Terence Crawford, and his thoughts on potential matchups in the lower weight classes.

Regarding his move up to 154 pounds from 147, Ennis stated, “I feel way stronger at this weight class. I probably should’ve been moved up but I was staying down there trying to be undisputed down there. Those guys down there were playing around so I had to move up and I think that’s the best decision I made because I think I would’ve stayed at that weight for too long.”

On having his name associated with Crawford's for a long time, Ennis said, “He retired, I ain’t worried about nothing he got going on. I’m locked in. I’m focused on the task at hand and that’s Xander Zayas. I’m locked in on that. He’s a retired fighter, if he comes back, he comes back.”

When asked who he considers to be the best fighters in the sport, Ennis replied, “You can go Bam, you can go Usyk, you can go Shakur. There’s a lot of great fighters out here right now.”
